Prairie dogs can make wonderful pets, but before running out and getting yourself one of these little rodents, Please do your research first! Their diet, type of bedding, etc.. is very important as you can shorten their life with the wrong care. They also require a lot of attention as they are social animals. Once bonded to you it is difficult for them to bond to another human friend. So please consider a possible 8 to 12 year commitment. Also keep in mind that most prairie dogs on the market are captured wild and therefore you must have patience for taming them. Most times they are loving and cuddly but sometimes they can have a definite attitude. It's in their nature and you're not going to change it. That attitude is what I like the best.
